With the aim to double farmers’ income and to provide employment opportunities to youth, the Centre is encouraging start-ups in the field of agriculture, said Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
He said that the Agriculture Ministry will fund the start-ups under innovation & agripreneurship component of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. He told in the first phase i.e. 2020-21, as many as 112 startups in agro-processing, food technology & value addition would be funded for a sum of Rs 1185.90 lakhs. The fund would be released in installments to help in doubling the income of farmers.
The Agri Minister added that as emphasised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, new technology in agriculture & allied sectors via start-ups and agripreneurship must be promoted. Thus, under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, innovation & agripreneurship component has been promoted.
He stressed on the need to make farming competitive, provide handholding to agriculture-based activities & adopt new technology as soon as possible. Emphasizing on boosting private investment in agriculture, the agriculture minister has drawn attention to the need for value addition & start-ups, as per an official statement.
The statement further said that in keeping with these Government initiatives to improve agriculture & allied activities and give an impetus to rural economy, the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) that aims to strengthen infrastructure in agriculture & allied areas, has been revamped.
