Yak Husbandry a Profitable Venture
Yak is one of the most important source of livelihood for the people of Pangchen area in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.Shri Jambey Tashi, MLA Lumla and Parliamentary Secretary (RWD), Government of Arunachal Pradesh inaugurated Yak Mela 2015 held at Lumpo and General Ground Zemithang of Twang district organized by the ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang in collaboration with 190 Mountain Brigade, Indian Army and Government of Arunachal Pradesh. More than 500 farmers including 300 yak rearers attended this Mela from different villages of the Pangchen valley. ICAR- National Research Centre on Yak felicitated 100 farmers with basic amenities.
Shri Tashi appreciated the ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak for promoting and highlighting scientific yak husbandry practices. He also pointed that Inbreeding depression is the major concern for yak husbandry and appealed to the scientists to find out the ways to reduce inbreeding. He also requested yak rearers to adopt scientific inventions to make yak husbandry a profitable venture.
Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun in his address encouraged yak rearing community to adopt scientific practices to make yak husbandry sustainable. He emphasized that yak and mithun are the integral part of livestock production system of Arunachal Pradesh and need to be promoted.
A livestock competition and an exhibition was organized at Limpo to encourage yak rearing community in adoption of scientific yak husbandry practices.
On this occasion, ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak made an exhaustive demonstration on its developed products and technologies to promote entrepreneurship among the youth of the Tawang district.
