Cargill India on 16 October announced an expansion of edible oil portfolio to launch healthy blended cooking oil and also aims a market share of 10% in this premium section in next two years.

To recall, Cargill India, which is part of the US food major Cargill, is the top edible oil player in the country. The company sells cooking oils under big brands like - NatureFresh, Sweekar Gemini, Leonardo olive oil and Rath. Yesterday the company launched ‘NatureFresh Acti Heart’ cooking oil, which is blended well with Canola and rice bran oils.

During the launch, Milind Pingle, Director (sales and marketing) of Cargill India said, “We are spreading out our offering in the health and wellness section in edible oil category. This cooking oil will help cope with a sedentary lifestyle which makes a person prone to obesity and heart diseases”.

Mr. Pingle said that the health oil section that comprises canola oil, olive oil and rice bran oil has a market size of about 3 lakh tonne per annum. He told that they are targeting to occupy 10% of this segment in the next 2 years.

There is no doubt that the healthy oil segment would grow more rapidly at over two times than the normal oils. The director said the company’s new cooking oil has high Omega 3 content than other products in the market. It is important to mention that Omega 3 helps in fighting inflammation and gives a healthy lipid profile.

When asked about other food business, Mr, Pingle said the company has made tie-up with Mother Dairy to sell NatureFresh wheat flour and that they are also testing their new wheat products - sooji’, maida and daliya in the market.
