By an official government release, the centre has planned a procurement of 37.5 mt rice. There are different targets for different major paddy producing states. Due to the great South-West monsoon, except in Indian peninsula, rice sowing has gained momentum. The different procurement targets set for the major crop producing states are as : For Punjab, the figures are 11.5 mt, which is the largest. For Chattisgarh, 4.8 mt. Procurement from UP is stated to be 3.7 mt, for Haryana 3mt and 3 mt, 2.5 mt and 2.3 mt for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal respectively.
