Kwality Ltd is one of the leading processor and handler of dairy products in India. It produces various types of dairy products such as Milk, Ghee, Butter, Milk powder, Curd, Yogurt, and Cheese etc. Kwality Ltd. Kwality Ltd was incorporated in 1992 as Kwality Dairy (India) Ltd. Currently, Kwality has six manufacturing units located at Palwal (Haryana), Bulandsahar (UP), Saharanpur (UP), Jarar (UP), Sitapur (UP), and Ajmer (Rajasthan). As a routine practice, on 1st October morning, Krishi Jagran was overwhelmed by the presence of Chairperson of Kwality dairy, ‘Dr. R.S.Khanna’ as a Chief Guest to head a discussion on Growth and development of Dairy sector. Dr. Khanna through his wide range of experiences shared with us as to how the Indian dairy sector has achieved changes since its inception with Amul at Anand years back. Till date, dairy sector has observed number of changes and inclusions of different brands has also lead to the dilution of the quality. But it is the Kwality group that has emerged as the most authentic brand in terms of ice-creams and other milk products.

Dr. Khanna also explained how Indian milk industry actually functions - by elaborating the cooperative societies that are functioning on village level. VSPs i.e. Village service providers are the body which provides the milk to the company and their payment is all online. To enhance the procurement of wholesome good quality milk directly from the milk producers, Kwality has increased milk procurement network in Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Milk producers supply milk directly to the Kwality Village Milk Collection Centre and milk from these centers are brought to Milk Chilling Centers for cooling. Kwality has adopted a producer-centric approach to buy raw milk based on the quality of milk. Kwality has been practicing a transparent system for purchase based on testing the milk quality through highly efficient, automatic milk collection units to build confidence among milk producers. It’s their continuous efforts that have brought Kwality to this level.

He said that Indian Dairy Cooperation works on 3 tier system; Village society, Union district and Federation district.  Village society buys milk from farmers. Union district gets money from from the society and federation is involved in all India marketing. Interim price is decoded during year closing and the price difference is maintained comparing it with the reliable brands.

Dr. Khanna also paid emphasis on the status of animal availability in different regions. He explained the functioning of Dairy technology which has been mentioned in detail by testing of fat and non-fat in the product as well as the cross breeding of buffaloes leading to their increase. Artificial insemination was also explained in detail by the Chairman. Other details regarding Indian Meat industry was also discussed.

The day-long-discussion held with Dr Khanna was really very informative and useful for everyone. We once again would like to thank you sir for sharing your valuable experiences with us.
