After Haryana,Faridabad, it’s the turn of Assam to go greener and  plant  6,16,639 saplings in one hour as a part of our fight against global warming. A masterplan has been prepared to carry out the plantation drive without any hassle," Charaideo deputy commissioner Vibekananda Phukan said on Sunday.

He said the plantation would take place simultaneously in different places in the district, including forest reserves, campuses of government educational institutions, naamghar precincts, government office premises, graveyards and the like. The drive will begin at 11 am.

Nuzhat Nasreen, assistant commissioner of Charaideo, said they have contacted the Limca Book of Records authorities, who have asked them to send video recording of the plantation drive, the report of the observers and other details of the event before June 20. "They will take a final decision after scrutinizing these details," she said.

In Limca Book Of Records, Haryana's Faridabad holds the world record of planting over two lakh saplings in three hours in 2015.

Many dignitaries, including the secretary of Dibru Saikhowa Conservation Society, Joynal Abedin, and founder of Nature's Beckon, an environmental NGO, Soumyadeep Datta, will take part in the plantation drive. "The opening ceremony will take place at Naganadi where the guests will kickstart the drive by planting the first saplings, after which thousands of people will plant over six lakh saplings across the district within the stipulated time," he said.

Phukan sought the cooperation of all sections of the people to make the drive a success by creating a new record. "I appeal to all to join the noble cause of planting trees."

Nearly three lakh saplings will be planted in Abhaypur and Singlo reserve forests.

Four independent observers/witnesses will be present at different spots to monitor the drive.
