‘Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall’ Alert in Indian Coastal Areas and Southern Region

The weather department of India has issued ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ warning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka during next 24 hours and over Konkan & Goa on Thursday due to cyclonic circulation above sea level.

The weather department of India has issued ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ warning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka during next 24 hours and over Konkan & Goa on Thursday due to cyclonic circulation above sea level. 

“The cyclonic circulation over south Andhra Pradesh & neighborhood extending up to 3.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 2-3 days. Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka in next 24 hours and over Konkan & Goa on 26th September”, said Indian Meteorological Department in its morning bulletin. 

 

On the other hand, the Cyclonic Storm 'HIKAA' over Oman moved nearly westwards with a speed of 21 kmph during past 06 hours and lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today, the 25th September 2019 near latitude 19.6°N and longitude 55.9°E, about 180 km west of Duqm and 70 km southwest of Haima. It is very likely to move west-southwestwards, weaken into a Depression during next 06 hours and into a Well Marked Low during subsequent 06 hours. 

The weather department advised the fishermen not to venture into northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea during next 12 hours. 

As per yesterday’s report, at many places over Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and North Eastern states witnessed rainfall along with thunderstorm. 

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu Kashmir; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Himachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Uttarakhand and Kerala & Mahe as per IMD reports.
