Assam has released a fresh exclusion list today (26th June 2019), adding an additional one lakh names to be excluded from the NRC (National Register of Citizens).
An additional exclusion list that includes names of 1, 02,462 people to the draft National Register of Citizens was published in Assam.
The names have been excluded from the register of citizens as they were found to be ineligible for inclusion in the final draft of the NRC list.
People whose names have been excluded from the additional list will be informed individually via Letters of Information or LoI that will be sent at their residential addresses. These people can file their claims at the designated NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) till 11th July 2019.
The submission of Claim & its disposal by the Disposing Officer via a hearing will take place together. LoI will have the details of the venue of claim submission cum hearing. The hearings will begin from 5th July 2019 onwards. The date of hearings will be available online in the NRC website - www.nrcassam.nic.in from 29 June 2019. All such Claims will be disposed later and results of these people will be announced in the Final National Register of Citizens on 31st July 2019.
A statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC said the list has been published according to the provisions of Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens & Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003.
The draft, which was issued on 30th July, 2018 had the names of 2.9 crore people, out of total applications of over 3.29 crore people. 45 lakh people were left out in the draft.
On 24th June 2019, Assam added another one lakh names to the list of those who have been left out of the National Register of Citizens.
It is important to mention that the NRC in Assam is being updated under the supervision of the Supreme Court & the final list is scheduled to be released on 31st July.
