A woman has numerous roles in the society and once she decides something, she fetches it by all her toil and determination. Talk of a woman and what is there that she has not touched, from moon to coal mines, from ocean depths to sky heights. Women are leaving their footprints at all walks of life, be it any sector. And following so,she has surpassed the contribution of men in the farm sector as well. Going by statistics, the contribution of women in agriculture is more than 50%.

Bhoomika Kalam, who belongs to a small village Pahatkala in Madhya Pradesh has shown us all again, the degree of strength and the uphill battle a woman can fight to get what she seeks. Bhoomika lost her father at a tender age. Her father was a farmer who had 15 acre of land, and which was the only source of the family’s income. After the demise of her father, all the responsibilities bore on Bhoomika’s shoulder. But Bhoomika continued her studies even in this distress.  She continued her education and started off her career  with journalism. She was doing wonders at her job.  But somewhere deep in her heart, she always had her father’s dream to fulfil. She bade bye to her journalism career and switched to agriculture. This was a turning point in her life.

Along with practising farming, she also started to enlightened other farmers . She continued flourishing her this step. Together with Artesan Agrotech, she gave a new peak to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh. She motivated the farmers to grow Colocasia (Arbi) and Bamboo which attracted support from the government as well. She devoted her this initiative for the welfare of the society and focused on doubling farmer’s income. So far, Bhoomika has been successful in covering  25000 hecatre of land with bamboo.  She has received governmental support in the form of 175 acres to set up a factory.  Bhoomika wants to make farmer self – reliant and business oriented by her this campaign.

This is one example, there are many such faces and names who are turning all the odds, and turning towards one of the most unreliable sectors : farming, capturing the tears and converting into smiles. When on one hand, we say youth is turning away from farming, instances like these make us believe that the scenario is not going to be the same for long. Krishi Jagran salutes and congratulates BHOOMIKA : THE STAR PLAYER.
