Himalayan Goat Meat from Uttarakhand and Mohua Flower From Chhattisgarh Exported to UAE, France

The Government’s thrust on promoting agricultural & processed food products exports from the regions, which were earlier not a part of the country’s export map, is gradually bearing fruits. 

Recently Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the exports of dehydrated Mohua Flower from Chhattisgarh & Himalayan goat meat from Uttarakhand to France & United Arab Emirates respectively. For promoting the exotic fruits like dragon fruit exports, APEDA organized a promotional event at Saudi Arabia market.

For the very first time, a consignment of dehydrated Mohua flower was exported via sea to France from Chhattisgarh. The produce was sourced from the forest in Korba district, Chhattisgarh & processed by APEDA registered enterprise. Mohua flowers exported to the France were collected mostly by tribal population from the forest of Korba, Surguja, Pali, Kathghora, Pasan, Churri in Chhattisgarh. Dehydrated Mohua flowers are used for making liquor, syrup & medicine.

For boosting the income of small ruminant farmers, a consignment of processed Himalayan Goat meat sourced from the villages of Uttarakhand hills was exported to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The export of the meat from Uttarakhand will boost the livelihood for farmers & enhance their economic status. This initiative of APEDA & other organizations will lead to an increase in the income of farmers of Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, boosting the agricultural exports potential, APEDA in association with the Indian Embassy organized a Virtual Buyer Seller Meet with Lao People’s Democratic Republic where the key officials & stakeholders from the food industries from both countries participated.

The virtual meet with the Laos was the 37th in the series of Virtual Buyer Seller Meet organized by the APEDA with various countries for boosting the exports of agriculture & processed food from India. India mostly exports the buffalo meat, groundnut, oil meals, marine product, cotton, animal casing & spices to Laos.

In a major boost to the exports of exotic fruits, APEDA is association with the Indian embassy today organized a dragon fruit promotion program for Saudi Arabia market in association with leading retailer group. Dragon Fruit, also referred to as Kamalan in India. 

APEDA recently facilitated the dragon fruit exports from Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Gujarat to the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia & King of Bahrain. The cultivation of dragon fruit requires less water & can be grown in the various kinds of soils. At present, the dragon fruit is mostly grown in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. West Bengal is new to taking up the cultivation of this exotic fruit.
