IFFCO’s Konatsu: A Crop-Friendly Broad-Spectrum Insecticide

In the agricultural world, pests frequently harm crops by consuming them or depleting important nutrients. Farmers use specialized procedures to reduce or eradicate insect infestations to prevent damage. Pesticides, which are chemicals that kill or control pest populations, are the primary fighting approach.

A broad-spectrum pesticide is a potent pesticide that kills whole groups or species of organisms known to be harmful to plants. A non-selective pesticide is another name for a broad-spectrum insecticide.

Broad-spectrum pesticides, as opposed to narrow-spectrum pesticides, may target vast amounts of crops at the same time, which may be plagued by more than one species of pest, and are thus widely utilized by farmers who require a quick-acting, assured remedy to an unknown problem.

Broad-spectrum insecticides usually target the muscle or neurological systems of a wide range of pests to successfully remove a dangerous organism. Organophosphate, carbamate, acetamiprid, pyrethroid, and neonicotinoid insecticides are examples of broad-spectrum pesticides.

As a result, farmers must prioritize bug management. Scientists and experts propose using insecticides at the early stages of the afflicted crop to reduce production loss.

As a result, IFFCO and Mitsubishi Corporation formed a joint venture to produce Konatsu (Spinetoram 11.7% SC), which has a unique site of action. It interferes with neuronal activity in insects by binding to the site of action. It is classed as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) allosteric activator by IRAC.

The active component in Konatsu is 'Spinetoram 11.7% SC.' It is made by fermenting Saccharopolyspora spinosa (a common soil bacteria) and then synthetically modifying it to increase its stability and activity in the field. It belongs to the spinosyn class of insect control agents.

Benefits of using Konatsu:

  • Konatsu delivers long-lasting, broad-spectrum insect pest control in several crops.

  • It kills insects more quickly as compared to other insecticides.

  • It works as a contact poison for insects.

  • To suppress thrips and leaf miners, Konatsu penetrates the leaves (translaminar).
