Tamil Nadu Govt. To Implement a Combined Water Supply Scheme worth Rs 1,473.16 Crore

The state government sanctioned five additional new multi-village water supply schemes for Rs 1,473.16 crore under the center’s Jal Jeevan Mission. The schemes will be funded by the state and central governments, as well as contributions from the community.

The five schemes were chosen by the government from among the 69 multi-village schemes included in the annual action plan. Thiruvarur, Nannilam, Koradachery, Kottur, Mannargudi, and Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur district would benefit from a unified water supply scheme.

Another program has been proposed for Sembedu and 88 habitations in Kaveripakkam, Sholinghur, and Arakkonam of Ranipet district, utilizing the river Palar as a source. According to an order issued by the municipal government and water supply division, the third scheme would encompass 32 habitations in seven Panchayats of Sirkazhi Union in Mayiladuthurai district.

A combined water supply scheme will be implemented for 109 rural habitations in  Lalgudi and Pullambadi Unions in Trichy, while a fifth scheme would assist Gangaikondan and 21 other rural habitations in Manur Union of  Tirunelveli, using the river Thamiraparani as its source.

Before giving sanction, the government evaluated the request of the mission director, Jal Jeevan Mission, and the managing director of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD). The schemes would be executed with a Rs 581.48 crore commitment from the Centre, a Rs 771.73 crore contribution from the state, and a Rs 7.38 crore contribution from the community. According to the order, the state government would bear the centage charge of Rs 112.57 crore.

The government has agreed to explore a proposal to provide a combined water supply scheme to Rasipuram and 523 habitations in Namakkal district in line with AMRUT 2.0. The proposal is being addressed separately.
