Crops to sow in September and October

Radish

Radish is a fast-growing crop that can be harvested within 3-4 weeks or around 20 days. They’re ideal for fall planting as they can handle cooler weather. The best time to plant it is in monsoon that is in September month. 

Garlic

Planting garlic in September ensures a bountiful harvest come spring or mid-summer. They grow best in the ground or raised beds, with bulbs ready for harvest in the following spring. September is the prime time for planting. 

Turnips

September offers the ideal conditions for planting turnips in bare soil. These fast-growing, low-maintenance crops love cool and moist conditions. If planted now, you can expect a harvest in about six weeks. 

Spinach

Spinach seeds can be sown directly into the ground, thriving in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, compost-enriched soil. Regular watering is key, but avoid soggy soil. Planting in October will give you a fast-growing harvest within a month. 

Beetroot

Sow beetroot seeds directly into the ground in October, about one inch deep and two inches apart. Whether in full sun or partial shade, they’ll be ready for harvest after two months, when the roots reach about two inches in diameter. 

Lettuce

Lettuce is versatile, growing well in both ground and containers. Sow the seeds a quarter inch deep and one inch apart. This crop thrives in cool, moist, and shady spots, and you can harvest when the leaves are 4-6 inches tall.
