Don’t Do This When Planting Curry Leaves!

By Shruti Sanwariya

Plantation Method

Always place the curry leaf seeds ½ inch inside the soil, cover it with potting mix, and gently press the soil to ensure contact.

Watering Technique

Water the soil after planting the seed. Wait for absorption if water pools on the surface. Stop watering once it starts draining from the bottom of the pot.

Sunlight Per Day

Place the pot near a south-facing window for sunlight. If it's above 32°F, you can keep the pot outside. Ensure the plant gets 6-8 hours of full sun daily.

Promoting Healthy Growth

Curry leaf plants need annual repotting. Gently remove the plant, place it in a pot twice as wide, fill with 60% soil and 40% compost, then water thoroughly.

Plucking The Leaves

Don’t pluck until curry leaf plants are at least one year old before harvesting leaves. If still thin after a year, allow more growth until the plant fills out.

Stop Doing This

Avoid pulling individual leaves to prevent empty growth. Instead, grasp the base of the stem connecting multiple leaves to the plant and gently pull it off to collect the leaves.
