Smt. Rathnamma Gundamanttha from Srnivasapura taluk, Kolar, started her
journey as a farmer with a vision to innovate and add value to her agricultural practices.
With 4 acres of land, Rathnamma adopted diverse farming practices. She
cultivated mango orchards, and millets, and curated sericulture plantations. Embracing modern
techniques advised by ICAR-KVK, Kolar, optimized her yields.
Attending vocational training programs on value addition and marketing
empowered Rathnamma. She learned to process millets, prepare pickles, and utilize advanced
technologies from institutions like ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, and ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad.
Rathnamma used low-cost ripening chamber tech for mangoes and
established millet processing and pickle units with financial assistance. She sold her products
under her brand "Vedic Food Products" both locally and online, expanding her market reach.
With a family of four and modest livestock, Rathnamma not only sustains
her household but also nurtures a thriving agribusiness. Her dedication to farming and
entrepreneurship sets an example of sustainable livelihoods.
Rathnamma's pursuit of excellence earned her awards at various levels,
from local to state, including the "Richest Women Farmer of India" at the 'Millionaire Farmer of
India Awards 2023' hosted by Krishi Jagran and sponsored by Mahindra Tractors.
Rathnamma's annual income is Rs. 1.18 crores. She inspires farmers and
entrepreneurs nationwide. Her journey from traditional farmer to billionaire agripreneur
highlights the power of innovation in agriculture.
