Makar Sankranti (January 15) is a harvest festival dedicated to the Sun
God, Surya. The day marks the sun's transit into Makara (Capricorn) Rashi (zodiac sign).
Following the sun's transit, it is a celebration of the change of
season. As the lengthy winter fades away, it paves the way for spring, promising renewed
vitality.
New crops are worshiped and shared amongst each other. Rice, sugarcane,
banana, coconut, and sesame are some of the harvests enjoyed during this day.
