Ratan Tata, born on
December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, was raised by his
grandmother after his parents separated in
1948.
Though he came close to
marriage four times, Ratan Tata remained unmarried.
He fell in love in Los Angeles, but the 1962
Indo-China War disrupted his plans.
In 1961, Ratan Tata began
working at Tata Steel, managing shop floor
operations, which laid the foundation for his
leadership role in the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata became chairman
of the Tata Group in 1991. He restructured the group
during India's economic liberalization and led
significant global acquisitions.
He
spearheaded Tata’s acquisitions of Tetley,
Jaguar-Land Rover, and Corus. In 2009, he launched
the Tata Nano, making affordable cars accessible to
the middle class.
Ratan Tata retired in 2012,
becoming chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata
Industries, and others, leaving a legacy of
innovation and leadership.
