Sales of Tractors in May 2022: Mahindra, TAFE, Sonalika, Eicher, Escorts And Others

Mahindra topped the segment with 52,487 tractor sales, up 215.75 percent year on year.

In May 2022, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), India's apex national body for the automobile retail industry, reported growth across all segments. In May 2022, total retail sales were 16,46,773 units, up 206.78 percent from 5,36,795 units sold in May 2021.

Overall Tractor sales climbed 215.75 percent YoY, from 16,623 unit retail sales in May 2021 to 52,487 unit retail sales in the previous month. Tractor sales in May 2020 were 10,193 units, up from 39,438 units in May 2019, indicating a consistent growth in sales despite the country's difficulties during the previous two years. In May 2022, every tractor OEM saw a YoY increase in retail sales, with Mahindra being the only one to surpass the 10,000 unit milestone.

Retail Tractor Sales in May 2022

Mahindra was India's top tractor manufacturer in May 2022, selling 11,960 units, up from 3,805 units in May 2021. In the previous month, market share fell to 22.79 percent, down from 22.89 percent in May 2021. There was also an increase in retail sales above the 10,699 units sold in April 2021 on a month-by-month basis.

Retail sales at Mahindra Swaraj Division increased to 8,789 units in May 2022, up from 2,951 units in May 2021. However, from 17.75 percent in May 2021, market share has dropped to 16.75 percent.

TAFE Limited came in third with 6,821 units sold in the previous month, up from 1,902 in May 2021. The tractor manufacturer reported a strong gain in market share YoY to 13% in May 2022, up from 11.44 percent the previous month.

Retail sales of International Tractors (Sonalika) increased to 6,111 units in May 2022, up from 2,216 units in May 2021. The company's market share fell from 13.33 percent to 11.64 percent year over year. Escorts came next in line with 5,826 tractor retail sales in May 2022. In May 2021, 1,739 units were sold, which was an increase. Last month, market share climbed from 10.46 percent in May 2021 to 11.10 percent.

John Deere, Eicher, CNH International: Sales Figures

In May 2022, John Deere tractor retail sales grew to 3,898 units, up from 1,316 units sold in May 2021, while Eicher tractor retail sales increased to 2,999 units, up from 870 units sold in May 2021. Eicher's market share climbed from 5.23 percent to 5.71 percent year over year. Eicher introduced the Prima G3 Series, a premium tractor line, in India last month. The Eicher Prima G3 has a power range of 40 to 60 horsepower.

CNH International increased its sales to 2,254 units in May 2022 from 597 units in May 2021, boosting its market share to 4.29 percent from 3.59 percent year on year. Kubota had 1,161 units sold in May 2022, up from 192 units in May 2021, and VST Tillers had 354 units sold in the previous month, up from 81 units in May 2021.

In May 2022, Indo Farm sold 325 units, while Force Motors sold 301 and Captain Tractors sold 157. Other OEMs in this segment sold 1,531 units in May 2021, up from 709 units in May 2021.
