Latest News: Northeast India, East, and Central India, and certain areas of Northwest India are expected to have maximum temperatures that are above average, according to the meteorological agency.
With the exception of peninsular India, most of the country is expected to see maximum temperatures in March that are above average.
In its report, the IMD stated that forecasts indicate an increased probability of heatwaves over various parts of northwest and central India.
There is a slim chance that a heatwave may pass through Central India in March 2023. In March, the IMD predicted that rainfall will be generally average.
"Throughout several areas of Central and neighboring Northwest India, there is a higher likelihood that a heatwave may occur during the months of March to May. March 2023 is likely to see a low risk of a heatwave over Central India," IMD said.
Today, the equatorial Pacific region is experiencing La Nia conditions. During the pre-monsoon season, La Nia is predicted to wane and transition to neutral El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions.
The IMD indicated that February was the hottest in the prior 122 years. The average maximum temperature was still 1.73 degrees above normal, as were the average lowest temperatures.
The meteorological service said that Delhi had its third-highest average maximum temperature in the previous 63 years in February 2023, with a reading of 27.7 degrees Celsius.
