Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav stated in a written reply in Lok Sabha that registration on e-Shram is based on self-declaration for all unorganised and migratory employees in the country.

He informed the House that the portal has been integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) site to allow the benefit of social security schemes to e-Shram registrants.

On August 26, 2021, the Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the e-Shram site to develop a comprehensive national database of unorganized and migratory employees. According to the e-SHRAM portal's official website, only agriculture employees and landless farmers are eligible for enrollment. Other farmers are not permitted to use the e-shram portal.

Numerous benefits of registering on this e-shram portal must be understood. After registering, the unorganized worker would obtain an Accidental Insurance cover of Rs.2 lakhs under PMSBY. In the future, all unorganized worker social security benefits will be distributed through this portal. In emergency and pandemic-like scenarios, this database could be utilized to provide required support to eligible unorganized employees.

Self-enrolment now requires an Aadhaar number, bank account information, and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
