The subsidized sheep distribution scheme for deserving Golla-Kuruma recipients, initiated in 2017 by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, transformed Telangana into a meat exporting province, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Minister of Animal Husbandry, said on Saturday.

‘The population of sheep in Telangana, according to the Livestock Census, is not only ranked first in the country, but the scheme has also made many successful businessmen dependent on this caste-based occupation,’ he said.

On Saturday, Mr. Srinivas Yadav was in Nalgonda to restart the delivery of phase-I pending sheep units. He claimed that in the Province, there were 28,335 beneficiaries who paid their donation and were awaiting distribution of the sheep.

The Minister reiterated that the scheme was started to support 7,31,572 beneficiaries of the Golla-Kuruma group with an initial outlay of ~5,000 crore. And as part of the scheme, 20 sheep and a ram are included in every sheep unit provided on a 75 percent subsidy.

The number of sheep in the state has risen by 1.37 crore since the launch of the project, according to Mr. Srinivas Yadav, and their approximate value was 6,169 crore. He also stressed that the 2019 Livestock Census announced that Telangana was among the first in the program for sheep production.

Together with G. Jagadish Reddy, Minister of Energy, and Gutha Sukender Reddy, Chairman of the Legislative Council, he asserted that many groups of Telangana were leading a happy life as their respective caste-based occupations took on new life and vigor, and the credit goes to the CM.

There have been Rajya Sabha member B. Lingaiah Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry Anita Rajendra, District Collector Prashant J. Patil, local legislators and leaders, and members of Yadava associations present.
