The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts following the torrential downpour that pounded Mumbai on Thursday, warning locals to exercise caution. In the next 24 hours, there will be "heavy to very heavy rainfall," according to an orange advisory. This warning is only for remote areas of the city and its surrounding districts.
On July 1 and 2, the IMD also issued a yellow signal, which denotes "heavy rains." For a few locations in the city. IMD Mumbai, the city's arm of the weather service, has forecast "moderate to heavy rains" for the next 24 hours, starting on Friday morning, with the potential for "occasional strong spells" in isolated areas of the city.
The island city in Mumbai had the most rain, with 119.09mm, followed by the western and eastern suburbs, with 78.69mm and 58.40mm of rain, respectively, per the civic authority of Mumbai, BMC.
Buses were detoured on up to 12 routes due to waterlogging in the capital of Maharashtra, which was affected by the constant rain. Authorities claimed that suburban trains were running normally, but commuters reported delays of up to 15 minutes.
Mumbai experienced its first significant downpour of the current monsoon season on Thursday. Two building collapse occurrences resulted from them, one each at Sion and Kaladevi. No one was hurt, and residents were taken safely away from the destroyed buildings, according to officials.

The Southwest monsoon is anticipated to arrive in Delhi on June 30 or July 1 and is anticipated to produce considerable rainfall in the first 10 days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The city's regular monsoon onset date of June 27 has been missed.
IMD forecasts that a fresh round of rain will begin falling in Delhi on Wednesday, June 29, and that a substantial amount of rain will fall throughout the first 10 days of the monsoon season. Since Saturday, the city has experienced humid weather, and it is predicted that this will last until Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the weather service predicts a mostly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers along with gusty gusts. The temperature is expected to be approximately 42 degrees Celsius on Wednesday with a further drop to 33 degrees Celsius on July 1 due to rain. Notably, Delhi has seen humidity levels between 40% and 50% over the past two days, and the high temperature was also above 40 degrees Celsius.
