University to Host ‘Nili Ravi Milking Competition’: Celebrating Dairy Farming Excellence

Every farmer who participates in the milking competition with Nili Ravi buffaloes yielding more than 15 kgs. will get Rs. 2100 as token money apart from free fodder, water and essential health services.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana is going to organize the ‘Nili Ravi Milking competition’ from 4th to 6th April 2023.

Farmers whose milk yield of buffalo is more than 15 kgs/day can participate in this milking competition. The main objective of the milking competition is to identify high milk-yielding Nili Ravi Buffaloes and to encourage and recognize such buffalo farmers.

Every farmer who participates in the milking competition with Nili Ravi buffaloes yielding more than 15 kgs. will get Rs. 2100 as token money apart from free fodder, water and essential health services. Winners will get cash prizes along with a certificate.

Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU said that in Punjab state approx 56 per cent of total milk comes from buffalo. He expressed his happiness over the organization of the milking competition. He said that this will encourage the buffalo farmers and will help in establishing the Buffalo Brand Punjab state. It will create awareness among farmers also.

Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU urged farmers to participate in this competition and said that the university is promoting buffalo rearing in the state as it is a native animal and its milk is also rich in fat. This kind of competition motivates the farmers to keep good breed animals and also generates awareness among people about the importance of quality and safety of milk.
