To enhance the economic and social conditions of handloom and power loom weavers who fall under the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories, the government of Uttar Pradesh will provide subsidies and technical training.

According to a state government official, Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, approved the plans at a high-level meeting to raise the living standards of the weavers who are part of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. The state government will help the weavers put up modern handlooms so they can keep up with the times and contribute to the growth of the state, he continued.

According to the spokesperson, the state government will also help the weavers obtain bank loans. The chief minister gave officers instructions to make sure that weavers receive the subsidy under the Jhalkari Bai Kori Handloom and Power Loom Development Scheme during the meeting.

Under the program, the state government will provide 80% of the cost of the subsidy, with the remaining 60% going toward the installation of modern power looms.

The district magistrate or tehsildar must issue a scheduled caste certificate to the beneficiary. The beneficiaries must be at least 18 years old. They should be experienced weavers or have received training. For the construction of a modern handloom unit, he advised them to own land.

The scheme is separated into three parts by the state government: a training program for modern power loom technology; the construction of improved handlooms or power looms; and the development of handloom or power loom workshops. According to the decision made at the meeting, the state government would provide a 60% subsidy for each new power loom when two are purchased.
