J&K Revitalizing Agriculture & Allied Sectors with Multi-Pronged Approach

Constant deliberation among eminent agricultural scientists, policy planners, policymakers, academia, and farmers resulted in the development of a futuristic roadmap for rapid growth in agriculture and allied sectors.

Dairy, livestock, poultry, and fishing are becoming high-growth industries, and the government is making significant efforts to raise farmer awareness of their tremendous potential and benefit.

In the last two years, the government has devised a viable strategy to accomplish the historic task of increasing farmer incomes.

The J&K government is taking steps to capitalise on untapped horticultural opportunities by ensuring an end-to-end approach from plantation to post-harvest management, processing, and marketing to increase quality production and exports.

Transformation in agriculture and related sectors is about more than just productivity; it is also about food security, farmer empowerment, and the prosperity of small farming families. The government is determined to translate growth benefits into financial security for farmers.

The UT Government is providing as many benefits to the agriculture sector as it does to the manufacturing sector, such as easy access to credit, infrastructure, pre, and post harvest facilities, risk and uncertainty coverage, and various interventions and schemes for farmers' benefit.

Notably, with a monthly income of Rs 18,918 per farmer, the UT of J&K is now among the top five States/UTs in terms of farm income. A renewed emphasis is also being placed on organic farming to bring about a paradigm shift in agricultural policy, rural prosperity, and improving farmers' incomes and quality of life.
