PMFBY: Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Gaining Popularity in Rajasthan

Agriculture Minister of Rajasthan Lalchand Kataria said on Monday that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is becoming popular in the state as a result of the state government's innovations, constant publicity, and prompt payment of insurance claims to farmers and that the number of crop insurance policies implemented in the state will surpass one crore in 2020-21.

Agriculture Minister of Rajasthan Lalchand Kataria said on Monday that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is becoming popular in the state as a result of the state government's innovations, constant publicity, and prompt payment of insurance claims to farmers and that the number of crop insurance policies implemented in the state will surpass one crore in 2020-21. 

While talking about PM Fasal Bima Yojana, he also stated that in 2018-19, the state insured around 78 lakh hectares, which will climb to approximately 1.13 crore hectares in 2020-21. In the same way, the total number of crop insurance policies climbed from 72 lakh in 2018-19 to 1.07 crore in 20-21. 

The Agriculture Minister also stated that in the past years, more than 80 lakh farmers in the state have received insurance claims worth Rs 13 thousand crores in the previous three years, Except for the district of Hanumangarh, all crop insurance claims have been fulfilled up to the  Rabi season 2020-21 for all districts in the state. 

He noted that during the current government's time, it had paid all state share premiums for Rabi 2020-21, as well as the former government's outstanding state premium dues to insurance firms. Though the payment of the state share premium for Kharif 2021 is still in the works. 

Kataria said in the statement that continuous innovations are being made by the state government to improve the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Insurance of 19 crops in Kharif and 17 in Rabi is being done according to the crops sown in the districts. Agriculture Commissioner Dr Omprakash informed that the work of crop insurance is being done by seven insurance companies in the state under PMFBY

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is the flagship crop insurance scheme of the Government of India which was launched on 13th January 2016. It is meant to provide a comprehensive insurance cover against the failure of the crop thus helping in stabilising the income of the farmers.
