Telangana Government looks to bolster irrigation infrastructure across the state

The Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao has asked officials from the irrigation department to provide a roadmap for supplying water for irrigation to maximum farm lands in the state. The Chief Minister said that maximum priority should be given to fill up the water tanks then the reservoirs and finally the Ayacut.

The main focus of the government lies in those areas that are not served by any modes of irrigation and helping develop irrigation facilities there. The Chief Minister office also said that the Sriram Gangs Sagar project more canals should be created while also using tanks to store water at places where there are currently no irrigation projects.

The government is currently working on several projects on Godavari and Krishna rivers for improving irrigation in the state. He said that due to the efforts of the government availability of water in abundance and the government’s focus was now to distribute the water across the state. A network of supplying water to one crore acre land was already in place and the government’s hopes to expand it.

“Ensure that two crops are cultivated on 30 lkh acres in a year under Sri Ram Sagar project (SRSP) as two thousand million cubic (tmc) of water can be released into SRSP from Kaleshwaram Project. Store 25 to 30 TMC of water in SRSP,” said the Chief Minister.
