This variety is particularly well-suited for cultivation in coastal saline areas, offering farmers a viable option to achieve good yields despite the difficult growing conditions.

Key Characteristics of CR Dhan 416 (IET 30201)

1. Geographic Suitability: CR Dhan 416 is specifically designed for cultivation in the coastal saline areas of West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. These regions often face the challenge of salinity, which can hinder the growth and productivity of traditional rice varieties. CR Dhan 416, however, is bred to thrive in such environments, making it an ideal choice for farmers in these areas.

2. Impressive Yield: One of the standout features of CR Dhan 416 is its impressive yield potential. Under optimal conditions, this variety can produce up to 48.97 quintals per hectare. This high yield is particularly noteworthy given the challenging conditions in which it is grown, providing farmers with a reliable source of income even in less-than-ideal environments.

3. Optimal Maturity: The maturity period of CR Dhan 416 is another significant advantage. This variety matures in 125 to 130 days, which is relatively short and allows for efficient crop rotation and management.   • Brown Spot: A fungal disease that causes brown lesions on leaves, leading to reduced photosynthesis and lower yields.

  • Neck Blast: A severe disease that affects the panicles, leading to grain sterility and significant yield losses.

  • Sheath Rot: This disease causes rotting of the leaf sheath, leading to poor grain filling and quality.

  • Rice Tungro Disease: A viral disease transmitted by leafhoppers, causing stunted growth and yellowing of the leaves.

  • Glume Discoloration: A condition that affects the color of the husk, leading to lower market value of the grain.

2. Pest Resistance: In addition to its disease resistance, CR Dhan 416 is also resistant to several major pests, including:

  • Brown Plant Hopper: A sap-sucking insect that can cause 'hopper burn' and significantly reduce yields.

  • Grasshopper: A common pest that feeds on the leaves and stems, leading to defoliation and crop damage.

  • Stem Borer: This pest bores into the stem of the rice plant, disrupting the flow of nutrients and leading to weakened plants and reduced yields.

CR Dhan 416 (IET 30201) represents a significant advancement in rice cultivation, particularly for farmers in coastal saline areas.
