The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) said that the total marine fish production in India has increased from 3.48 million tonnes to 3.56 million tonnes a marginal increase of 2.2% from the previous year.
According to the reports, Tamil Nadu topped the production chart in the country with a production of 7.75 lakh tonnes a 10% increase from last year when the state produced 7.01 laid tonnes. Gujarat was the largest producer last year followed by Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The estimates say that India saw six major cyclones during the past year such as Fani in April, Vayu in June, Hika in September, Kyarr in October, Maha in October-November, and Bulbul in October-November was the reason that fishing production saw only a marginal increase.
