From June 5 to 7, 2024, the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM) in Hyderabad conducted a comprehensive 3-day Training Program focused on 'Cultivation Technology for Vegetable Crop Production'. In partnership with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Narayangaon, Pune, Maharashtra, the initiative aimed to equip Scheduled Caste farmers with advanced cultivation techniques, best practices, and innovative strategies for vegetable farming.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he shed light on the current scenario of vegetable production, productivity, and export prospects in India and Maharashtra.

Dr. Rao emphasized the importance of diversifying cropping systems with various vegetable crops, including mushroom cultivation and kitchen gardens, to enhance yield, ensure nutritional security, and uplift livelihoods through organic farming. He encouraged participants to develop entrepreneurial skills for added income through vegetable processing and value addition.

Chairman of ICAR-KVK, Narayangaon, Pune, Shri. Krishiratna Anil G. Meher underscored the training program's potential to significantly boost vegetable productivity and uplift the livelihoods of Scheduled Caste farmers, an integral segment of the farming community.

During the training sessions, farmers received instruction on cultivation technology, marketing strategies, pest and disease management, residue-free vegetable production, natural and organic farming methods, as well as insights into various agricultural department schemes. They were also educated on soil testing, nutrition management, and the utilization of organic fertilizers. Practical learning experiences included visits to vegetable processing units.

The valedictory session saw the distribution of important inputs to all 60 participants, including 24 women farmers, marking the successful conclusion of the training program.
