India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant weather changes across various parts of India, including isolated heavy rainfall in certain coastal regions and the gradual withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from West Rajasthan and Kachchh.

Heavy Rainfall Alert for Andaman & Nicobar, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam

The IMD has issued a warning of heavy rainfall at isolated locations over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, including Yanam, for the coming days. This rainfall is due to an evolving weather system, particularly a cyclonic circulation forming over the north Andaman Sea. The system is expected to move northwestwards and create a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by September 23.

Monsoon Withdrawal Begins from Rajasthan

The Southwest Monsoon, which has been active across the country, is likely to begin its retreat from parts of West Rajasthan and Kachchh around September 23, marking the beginning of the withdrawal phase. The IMD’s forecast indicates favorable conditions for this withdrawal, with drier weather likely in these areas.

Cyclonic Activity Over Rajasthan and Bay of Bengal

A cyclonic circulation has been identified over northeast Rajasthan at lower tropospheric levels, which is influencing the region’s weather patterns. In the Bay of Bengal, the formation of a low-pressure area is expected around September 23, potentially affecting nearby coastal areas with rain and wind.

Regional Weather Forecasts

  1. Central India: Light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next three days, with heavier rains forecast for Chhattisgarh between September 23-26, and Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh from September 24-26. West Madhya Pradesh may also see heavy showers on September 25-26.

  2. East & Northeast India: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will experience widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy showers predicted on September 20. Odisha will face similar weather from September 22-24, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura can expect rain between September 22-26. Hot and humid conditions will prevail in parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India over the next few days, with above-normal maximum temperatures forecast.

  3. Northwest India: Scattered rainfall is expected across most of the region, except in West Rajasthan, where dry weather is anticipated.

  4. West & South Peninsular India: Light rainfall is predicted over the next four days, with heavier rains expected in regions like Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Marathwada, Gujarat, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 24-25. North Interior Karnataka will also see isolated heavy rainfall on September 24.

Above-normal maximum temperatures are likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Mahe for the next three days, while Northeast India will also experience warmer-than-average weather during this period.

As the monsoon season draws to a close in parts of northwest India, the IMD continues to monitor these evolving weather systems closely. Citizens are advised to stay informed about local weather updates and prepare for potential heavy rains, particularly in coastal and central regions.
