Need for Research, Innovation in Agri Sector: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took time off his busy schedule to interact with farmers and scientists at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi and stressed the need for research and innovation in the agriculture sector.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also present during the prime minister's interaction with agriculturalists. PM Modi has emphasised the need for research and innovation in agriculture and referred to the release of 109 new crop varieties at Pusa in New Delhi on August 11, 2024.

The prime minister said these varieties are a tangible outcome of his focus on innovation in agriculture. During his interaction with the farmers, PM Modi noted that they are conscious of their responsibility towards Mother Earth and are voluntarily shunning pesticides and moving towards organic farming.

Advising farmers to adopt new varieties, he suggested using the new variety in a small area and taking it to bigger plots only after satisfactory results of their own experiment.

The PM reiterated his commitment to working at triple speed in his third term and recalled the iconic phrase Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan coined by former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, and the subsequent addition of Jai Vigyan by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Prime Minister then highlighted how he has added Jai Anusandhan to this phrase, giving utmost priority to research and innovation. PM Modi said that the central government is committed to the welfare of the farmers. In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that his meeting with the farmers was a memorable experience.
