New Year Gift for Govt. Employees: 7th Pay Commission Implemented

With an eye on the upcoming parliament and state assembly elections in 2019, Maharashtra government on 25^th December announced a New Year bonanza.  It will be implementing the 7^th Pay Commission’s recommendations for all the government employees.

A cabinet meeting headed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has cleared the decision to increase the salaries as well as allowances, benefiting around 17 lakh employees and involving an added burden of Rs 21,000 crore on the exchequer.

The decision, which will be implemented from 1^st January 2019, will take retrospective effect from 1^st January 2016 and the government servants will get salaries according to the revised pay-scales from their 1^st February pay package.

As per reports, the 3-year arrears, which totals to around Rs 10,000 crore unpaid to the employees will reach into their provident fund accounts in 5 installments.

An official told that employees will also be entitled to outstanding of DA or dearness allowance for the last 14 months.

The official estimates stated that there will be a hike of around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 for Class IV employees; Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 for Class III and around Rs 9,000 to Rs 14,000 for Class II grade as well as Class I officers.

The Maharashtra government had allocated a sum of Rs 10,000 crore in the state budget for 2018-2019 to improve the pay-scales of the employees.
