India will witness a rare occurrence of a Sturgeon Super Blue Moon tonight, August 31, 2023. The moon will appear 14 percent bigger and brighter than the usual one. This one will be a once-in-a-blue-moon phenomenon and an amazing view for the sky-gazers.

A supermoon occurs when the moon's orbit brings it abnormally close to Earth, at an average distance of 3,60,000 kilometers. This makes it appear brighter and larger than usual.

What is Super Blue Moon?

The Super Blue Moon is the convergence of three lunar occurrences which include:

  • Full Moon

  • Supermoon

  • Blue Moon

It is to be noted that the term "Blue Moon" does not signify the colour of the moon but, it refers to the occurrence of a second full moon within a single month.

Super Blue Moon: When will Super Moon be Visible in India?

The Blue Supermoon will be visible at 7:05 pm. The moon will be 30 percent brighter and 14 percent bigger than the usual micro-moon. The full phase of the super blue moon will be observed throughout the night.
