India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory highlighting the intensification of Cyclone Fengal in the Bay of Bengal, along with significant rainfall, fog, and temperature trends across the country. The cyclonic storm, which is set to make landfall along the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast, brings with it heavy rainfall and strong winds, while other regions brace for foggy conditions and fluctuating temperatures.

Weather System at Play

  • Cyclone Fengal: On November 29, 2024, a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into Cyclonic Storm "Fengal". By the morning of November 30, the storm had moved west-northwest at a speed of 13 km/h, positioning itself at 12.3°N latitude and 80.9°E longitude. It was located approximately 120 km east-northeast of Puducherry, 110 km southeast of Chennai, 200 km north-northeast of Nagapattinam, and 420 km north of Trincomalee.

  • Forecast: Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, near Puducherry, as a cyclonic storm with wind speeds ranging from 70 to 80 km/h.
