India braces for a mixed bag of weather conditions this week, with dense fog gripping parts of the north, a fresh Western Disturbance set to bring rain and snow to the Himalayan region, and fluctuating temperatures across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for foggy mornings in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, while Delhi/NCR experiences cooler nights and smog-laden skies.

Weather Systems and Impacts

  • Cyclonic Circulation Over Arabian Sea: The low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea has dissipated, but an associated cyclonic circulation remains over the southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to mid-tropospheric levels.

This system is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall and snowfall to the Western Himalayas, along with isolated light rainfall in Punjab and Haryana on December 8-9, 2024.
