Low-Pressure Area: A low-pressure area persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to middle tropospheric levels. It is expected to intensify and move west-northwest towards the Tamil Nadu coast over the next two days.

Western Disturbances: A Western Disturbance is currently observed as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies along Long. 68°E, north of Lat. 25°N, will likely affect the western Himalayan region starting December 18, 2024.
Rainfall Forecast and Warnings
IMD has predicted widespread rainfall activity across southern and coastal regions of India over the next few days. Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are set to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly on December 18 and 19, as a low-pressure system intensifies over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is also expected in Kerala, Puducherry, and parts of Odisha, signaling a wet spell ahead.
