Weather Update: Cyclonic Storm "DANA" Triggers Heavy Rainfall Alert for Odisha, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu from Oct 23 to 25

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued significant weather alerts for several regions, including the development of a cyclonic storm, "DANA," over the Bay of Bengal. Isolated areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, South Interior Karnataka, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to experience heavy rainfall, while isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh may face hailstorms.

Cyclonic Storm "DANA"

As of 23rd October 2024, Cyclonic Storm "DANA" has intensified over the east-central Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move northwestwards and strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by the early morning of 24th October. By the night of 24th or the morning of 25th, it is predicted to cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph.

  • Odisha: Heavy to very heavy rainfall across districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara from 23rd to 25th October. Extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is expected in Mayurbhanj and other districts on 24th and 25th October.

  • West Bengal: South and North 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Kolkata will experience heavy rain on 24th and 25th October.
