Genome Editing

The technology of genome editing is used to accurately and effectively change DNA within a cell. In the late 1900s, the first genome editing tools were created. Recently, a new genome-editing technique known as CRISPR, which was developed in 2009, has made it easier than ever to edit DNA. CRISPR is a simpler, quicker, less expensive, and more precise way of genome editing than previous approaches.

Crop genome editing could considerably accelerate the pace of breeding programs. It has the potential to drive the development of characteristics in new crops, allowing for improvements in yield and pest resistance, climate change adaptation, and industrial and medicinal uses.
