Nutrient pollution refers to the presence of excessive amounts of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus in surface water sources, primarily caused by inputs such as agricultural runoff carrying nutrient-rich fertilizers, discharges from septic tanks and feedlots, and emissions from combustion.
