Raised-Bed Gardening
Raised bed horticulture is a gardening method that involves elevating the soil surface above the surrounding ground level and typically enclosing it within a structure referred to as a raised bed. This approach enables gardeners to create a distinct and controlled environment for their gardens, making it easier to manage soil quality by optimizing factors like density, nutrient levels, water infiltration, and drainage. Raised beds also act as a protective barrier against the movement of pests and pathogens from adjacent natural soils. Additionally, they are favoured because they eliminate the need to dig into the ground, which can be challenging or impractical in areas with rocky terrain, tree roots, or the risk of damaging buried utility lines.
