While some people keep pets for companionship and guarding, there are some who like to think of their pets as status symbols. Now, let’s take a look at some of the most expensive pets in the world.

Many people consider the Tibetan Mastiff a prized status symbol because of their pure bloodline and rarity. Tibetan Mastiff is an intelligent, strong-willed, independent, fiercely protective, territorial, and massive dog breed with a majestic presence because of their heavy coats, bushy tails, and lion manes.

Even though they are extremely heavy, they are still very athletic and powerful dogs. When trained properly, Tibetan Mastiffs can easily get along with children and other animals.  The most expensive Tibetan Mastiffs ever sold were worth $1.9 million and $1.5 million each.

As the name suggests, a thoroughbred racehorse is a breed of horse that is bred for horse racing. Any purebred horse is referred to as a thoroughbred horse. Thoroughbreds are known for being agile, fast, and spirited. It is not only expensive to buy a thoroughbred racehorse but it is also very expensive to train it and pay for its food and medical expenses. However, upon retiring from racing thoroughbred racehorses can command an astronomical fee as a stud. The most expensive racehorse sold for $16 million in 2006.

The white lion is a rare colour mutation of the lion that is common amongst the Southern African Lion. Although it is very dangerous to keep a big cat such as a white lion cub as a pet, however, for exotic animal enthusiasts a white lion cub is a rarity for which they are ready to pay big bucks. Since they are so rare, white lion cubs can cost a person upwards of $140,000. On top of it, their enclosure, their food, and their medical bills will likely be more than their purchase price.

The Savannah cat is a hybrid between a serval and a domestic cat. The hybridization process produces an offspring that has serval’s characteristic lean and large body, along with large years and brown-spotted coat. Savannah cat is a breed of domesticated cat that is extremely friendly, playful, and beautiful. They can entertain themselves with water for hours. A savannah cat can cost upwards of $20,000.

Arabian Horse

Arabian or Arab horse is a breed of horse known for its distinctive head shape and high tail carriage. This recognizable horse breed originated on the Arabian Peninsula and based on archaeological evidence dates back at least 4,500 years. Because of selective breeding, the Arabian horse is good-natured, loyal, willing to please, and quick to learn. Arabian Horses can cost you between $15,000 and $130,000.

Chinese Crested Dog

Chinese Crested Dogs tend to be much costlier than other breeds of dogs because they are extremely rare. Chinese Crested Dog is a hairless breed of dog that is obedient and loyal. They have an extremely sensitive and gentle nature which makes them great therapy dogs too. The average price of a Chinese Crested Dog is somewhere between $1,200 to $2,200.

Mini pigs or pygmy pigs are small breeds of domestic pigs. Mini pigs are considered the smallest pig on the planet. Their characteristic features include perked-back ears, a short snout, a rounded head, and a potbelly. Micropigs can cost a person upwards of $2,000.

The hyacinth macaw or hyacinthine macaw is a type of parrot that is native to central and eastern South America. Hyacinth Macaw is considered one of the largest flying parrots. Its population in the wild is currently decreasing day by day because of habitat loss as well as the pet trade. Hyacinth macaws tend to be intelligent and gentle birds that can sometimes be too loud. They can also live for at least 50 years. Hyacinth Macaw can cost a person somewhere between $7,000 to $14,000.

For some people, it is too hard to say goodbye to their beloved pet. And rather than getting a new dog, they’d much rather just clone their dog to produce a nearly identical pet. However, cloning is neither an easy nor a cheap procedure and can cost upwards of $150,000 when done properly.
