Gone are the days when women used to remain inside the four walls of their home. This is the era of Women Empowerment and Women Power. Women have become change makers; they are rewriting the history of entrepreneurship. We have come across many such brilliant women and the one we recently in conversation is Mrs Pratibha Tiwari, who is heading a network of organic farmer's community since 2015 from Madhyapradesh. Pratibha says that this Organisation was primarily set up to promote organic farming and traditional culture of agricultural practices, lobby with different government agencies and departments to pay more attention to sustainable agriculture and assist farmers using chemicals and pesticides to convert to organic farming practice successfully. She was deeply against chemicals and its usages and she always wanted to start an organization which actually sells good clean products very reasonably. She was in a conversation with the Editor, Agriculture World, Dr Lakshmi Unnithan. Her Organic Store sells ranges of products like, Certified Organic, PGS certified and Natural products where the common middle class can buy products of their choice.
Bhumisha Organics is at present working with more than 3000 farmers and their family, along with students, govt. officials, and many more representatives. The group is presently working in about 576 villages of Madhya Pradesh, India. Bhumisha organics have already actively participated in many national and international conferences to promote and explore about organics farming being practised by farmers of Madhya Pradesh. Pratibha says her strength is her network of community-based grassroots level organizations and farmers Bhumisha is linked. She works hard to get national and international linkages to give a platform to her farmers to sell their products. She also works with small and marginal farmers and also indigenous communities as well and also aims to empower and educate the rural communities for being self-reliable, keeping focus on economic growth. Promoting farmers for organics farming, and inspiring them to produce quality products focusing on value addition, storage, and marketing is Bhumisha’s speciality.
They also work on extension services to promote Organic farming through fair trade, certification, entrepreneurship for rural development, natural resource management, conservation of agricultural ecology and biodiversity. Farmers are being trained in such a way that they produce organics product that matches the international level of trading in competitive marketing. Bhumisha also promotes the involvement of women in agriculture by integrating family farming activities in villages of Madhya Pradesh. They are actively involved in nature-friendly and scientific farming practices that are financially suitable, energy efficient, eco-climate friendly and also helps in the protection of the environment and strengthening of rural networks.
Pratibha says their focus is to empower family units and towards State and Central Governments agencies, is to help introduce natural farming in India. They help families transition from chemical farming to natural and organic farming methods by guiding them with workshops on guidance for certain topics as per their requirements.
