Cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and a variety of other spices are mainstays in every Indian kitchen. These fragrant spices are widely used in our regular cooking. 

We add spices to practically everything we prepare in our cooking, from masala chai to curries and dal. The fact that they may be used medicinally adds to their popularity. 

Indian spices are high in essential nutrients and have been used in traditional medicine since eons. And, if consumed in right amount, these spices may help strengthen immunity, avoid seasonal infections, and nourish us from within. 

Clove Health Benefits: 

  1. Clove (also known as laung)is one of the most prominent spices in our kitchen. Apart from its extensive usage in cooking, clove may also be used as a home remedy for coughs, colds, headaches, and other ailments. It is loaded with anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, carminative and anti-flatulent properties that helps in the prevention of cold and flu. Clove (and clove oil) is one of the finest sources of antioxidants.  It is used as an antibacterial and pain reliever, particularly for toothaches and stomach aches. 

  1. Cloves can help regulate sugar cravings if taken in the right proportions. Yes, you heard me correctly. This warm and sweet spice includes nigricin, which has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity,therefore reducing our sweet cravings. 

  2. Cloves can also help avoid toothaches, bad breath, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms.

  3. Cloves are high in antioxidants, in addition to other key vitamins and minerals. Antioxidants are compounds that help to reduce oxidative stress, which can lead to the development of chronic illness. Cloves also contain eugenol, a compound that has been found to work as a natural antioxidant.

 

Dosage: How to Consume Cloves 

  • Cloves should not be chewed or swallowed; instead, suck on a clove or two for as long as you can.

  • While it works for the majority of individuals, it may not work for you..

  • If it fits you, go ahead and do it; if not then don't.
