Heatwave Grips North India
While southern and eastern states in the country revel in early monsoon showers, the north swelters under a relentless heatwave. The national capital is expected to reach 45°C, prompting an orange alert from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The arrival of the southwest monsoon, usually bringing respite from the scorching heat, remains elusive for northern states. The IMD predicts minimal improvement for Delhi until June 18, with a yellow alert replacing the orange one thereafter. While some rainfall is forecast, it is likely to be isolated and accompanied by dust storms.
The ongoing heatwave is attributed to easterly winds and the influence of a western disturbance. However, scientists predict a slight decrease in intensity, particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Jharkhand, another state yearning for monsoon rains, faces a similar fate.
Despite initial predictions for a June 17 arrival, the monsoon seems to be lagging in Jharkhand. The IMD now suggests an entry by June 18 or 19, with the monsoon currently situated over Bengal. While thunderstorms are forecast for some districts, including Ranchi and Gumla, monsoon rains remain the awaited source of relief for the state.
North India awaits the arrival of the monsoon with anticipation. While some improvement is probable in the coming days, the wait for widespread showers continues.
