The primary determinant of crop growth and yield is the weather. All other physical parameters, inputs, and agronomic techniques can be controlled, but the whims of the weather cannot. However, harmful impacts on crops are frequently manageable. By providing weather information that is appropriately understood for its agricultural relevance, comprising recommendations for the farm operation, and communicated far in advance of the coming weather, risk in agricultural activities can thus be avoided. Of all the services that can be effectively provided to the farming community, this is by far the most important.

Under the Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) scheme, the Agrometeorological Advisory Service (AAS) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), works to gather and organize climate/weather, soil and crop information and combine it with the weather forecast to help farmers make correct decisions.

The Agricultural Meteorology Division of the India Meteorological Department in Pune serves the requirements of farmers and carries out research in this area.

Minimum Temperature Forecast of Haryana:

Shallow fog is likely at isolated places during the next 03 days in the state. Gradually fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C for the next 2 days.

General Agromet Advisory (from 13.12.2022- 16.12.2022):

Farmers are recommended to complete the seeding of mustard crops using university-recognized varieties during this timeframe due to the probability of dry weather conditions at this time. Additionally, they recommended irrigating early-planted mustard crops according to necessity.

Crop Advisories and Plant Protection from 13.12.2022- 16.12.2022

Wheat:

Farmers are encouraged to finish the timely seeding of wheat crops due to the probability of dry weather conditions during the time.

Mustard:

Farmers are recommended to irrigate the mustard crop due to the potential of dry weather. Use a fungicide spray, such as Bavistin, to combat stem rot infections

Sugarcane:

If the top borer damage surpasses 5% level, control the attack by applying 10 kg of Ferterra 0.4 GR or 12 kg of Furadan/Diafuran/Furacarb/Fury 3G (carbofuran) per acre at the base of shoots. Immediately raise the soil a little and irrigate the crop softly.

Vegetable: -

  • Apart from regular irrigation, spraying insecticides can also be an effective way to manage pests. One such insecticide is Ekotin 5%, which is a neem-based insecticide. This pesticide can be used to control pests like jassids (Bhindi), fruit rot, and diapause eggs. Spraying should be done at a weekly interval, with 80 ml of the product being sprayed in 100-125 litres of water per acre.

  • Spray 80 ml Coragen 18.5 SC or 80 g Proclaim 5SG in 100-125 litres of water per acre to inspect fruit and stop borer attacks on brinjal.

  • During this time, early kinds of broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower can be transplanted.

  • Winter vegetable planting, including the seeding of potatoes, radishes, turnips, spinach, coriander, and fenugreek, would benefit from favorable weather.

Fruits: -

  • It is a very good time to grow evergreen plants like citrus, guava, mango, litchi, sapota, jamun, bael, amla, and others.

  • Congress grass, cannabis, and other large weeds that are present in and around orchards should be pulled since this time of year make them very simple to eradicate.

  • Remove and bury the fruit fly-infested guava fruits on a regular basis.

  • It is time to handle Phytophthora (gummosis) in citrus orchards.

Live Stock Advisory

Animal Husbandry:

  • Animals should be kept in sheds due to changing weather conditions, such as cold weather. To prevent a house fly or other pest invasion, keep the area surrounding the animal shed clean.

  • To keep them healthy, give them 50 grams of iodized salt and 50 to 100 grams of mineral mixture each day with their feed and green fodder.

  • Spray Butox (2 ml/litre of water) on the animals and in the sheds to get rid of tick infestations. Repeat the spraying process after 10 to 15 days. A six-month-old animal should not be sprayed.

  • Animals' udders can be protected from mastitis by using teat dip and practicing good hygiene. Teat dip is a solution of 75 ml povidonfe iodine and 25 ml glycerine.
