10 Farmers of Punjab Honoured for Significant Contribution in Paddy Straw Management

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) together with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India had organized national conference of farmers on Promoting In-situ residue management at scale for clean & green environment at New Delhi. Around 1500 farmers from UP, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi participated in the conference.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) together with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India had organized national conference of farmers on Promoting In-situ residue management at scale for clean & green environment at New Delhi. Around 1500 farmers from UP, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi participated in the conference.

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Parshotam Rupala and Director General of ICAR Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra honoured 10 farmers of Punjab for their significant contribution in managing paddy straw. Among them, 2 progressive farmers Narinder Singh from Booh Havelian village, district Tarn Taran and Bhupinder Singh from Badanpur village, Mohali were honoured for managing paddy straw. It is important to mention that both these villages were adopted by KVK, Tarn Taran & Mohali last year under crop residue management project. 

For management of paddy crop residues, machinery like Happy Seeder, Zero Till Drill, Cutter cum Spreader, Chopper, MB plough were provided free of cost in these villages. Both the progressive farmers had sown their wheat crop with Happy Seeder without burning any residue on their field. Besides, they had sown land of other farmers of neighboring villages & organized a campaign against paddy straw burning in surrounding villages.

Deputy Director of KVK Tarn Taran Dr. Balwinder Kumar and Deputy Director of KVK Mohali Dr Yashwant Singh, along with 100 farmers from different villages of district Tarn Taran and Mohali took part in this conference.
