On Friday, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot made a visit to the Hydroponics Horticulture and Training Facility at Kushak Nallah Cluster Bus Depot, where he distributed certifications to the first batch of women who were being trained in the facility.

Hydroponics is a method of farming in which plants are grown without soil in a small amount of space using mineral or nutrient solutions. Growers who produce their crops hydroponically have been successfully doing their work. Pesticide-free production, soil-less growth conditions, limited or no insect entry, efficient resource utilization, and a regulated environment make hydroponic crop cultivation more profitable than traditional farming.

Once the required sanctions are obtained, the facility will contain a training, production, and harvesting center that will enable women to commercially use these crops as revenue generators. This will be an important step in providing more end-to-end employment options for women and people with disabilities (PwDs), as well as more entrepreneurs.

The workforce at the facility, which is located near the Kushak Nallah bus depot, consists of women and people with disabilities who are being instructed not just in using technology, but also in marketing and soft skills, according to Gahlot. It also teaches women how to cultivate food for commercial use using hydroponics and horticulture.
