Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar Launches ‘Lumpi-ProVacInd’

The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, today launched the indigenous vaccine Lumpi-ProVacInd to protect livestock from Lumpy Skin disease, providing significant relief to the country's livestock. The vaccine was developed in collaboration with the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izzatnagar (Bareilly), by the National Equine Research Center, Hisar (Haryana).

Tomar described this vaccine as a watershed moment in the eradication of the Lumpy disease, stating that livestock, along with human resources, is our country's most valuable asset, which we must protect and grow.

Tomar stated that developing this vaccine under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has added a new dimension (ICAR). He praised the Equine Research Center and Veterinary Research Institute scientists for developing the Lumpi disease vaccine. Since the disease arrived in India in 2019, research institutes have been working to develop a vaccine.

Tomar expressed happiness that scientists accepted this as a challenge and, after conducting limited trials in a short period of time, developed a vaccine that is 100% effective and meets all standards, and will be effective in eliminating the Lumpy disease.

Tomar directed that this vaccine be distributed in large quantities as soon as possible to help the cattle. He stated that the country has thirty crore livestock and that, given the plight of mute animals, all possible measures should be taken to provide them with relief as soon as possible.

Tomar stated that previously, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, our scientists developed a vaccine to protect against Corona, which benefited the entire country as well as other countries.

Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, Minister of State for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary, Secretary Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Jatindra Nath Swain, Director General of ICAR, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Deputy Director General Dr. B.
