In 1984, during the 50th ExpoZebu, the Zebu Museum was opened to the public on May 2 with the launch of its first show. The name chosen for the institution, "Edílson Lamartine Mendes", was a way to honor this important creator and former president of what would be the predecessor of ABCZ - the former Rural Society of Triangulo Mineiro.

In its early days of existence, the Zebu Museum was just a department of the ABCZ. During 1990, in the search for the amplification of its action and the socio-educational commitment, it happened to be an institution with own identity having the ABCZ like mentor. Throughout this trajectory, the agency has sought directions that privilege the knowledge, selection, research and presentation of samples related to a universe of sources that cover different languages. These range from intangible and tangible cultural assets to the varied world of history and the arts, such as music, theater, typical dances, local traditions, handicrafts and cuisine.

The collection of the Zebu Museum consists of exhibits and the Museum of the Zebu Virtual. With the collection it is possible to carry out teaching and / or extension activities with the assembly of didactic exhibitions, attendance to public and private schools, promotion of seminars, lectures and courses focusing on the area of Agrarian Sciences.
The pieces of the museum have their own historicity and can reveal data of interesting events as a way to involve and make known the history of Zebu in Brazil.
